How we’re helping veterans stay independent and healthy

Learn about the different options of home care for veterans, and the financial benefits available through the VA

As a senior who’s a veteran, you may find yourself worrying about aging.

Whether those fears are about independence, finance, or health, it’s important to plan for your old age to reduce those worries.

Aging is a time when you may need support to continue living in your chosen home environment, while still thriving. Even though long-term care helps tremendously with health and independence, the costs could make a significant dent to your lifetime savings.

However, help may be available!

In fact, 1 in 3 seniors may be eligible for aid and attendance sometime in their life, but very few people actually know about this valuable benefit.

Keep reading to learn more about an important benefit from the VA—called the Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit—that helps pay for home care for veterans, and how Flourish in Place can help you gain access to it.

What is the Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit?

The Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit is available through the United States government and provides up to $2,295 per month for personal home care services. If eligible, this benefit is available to veterans and their surviving spouses for the rest of their lives.

This VA benefit is for veterans over 65 years of age who served honorably in the active military service during a period of war, or a surviving spouse of a veteran (regardless of age). To qualify for the benefit, you must meet certain asset and income requirements and be able to show that you could benefit from assistance with daily activities.

How does the benefit work?

At Flourish in Place, we’re proud partners with the Veterans Benefit Group, a division of Care Planning Institute (CPI), which allows us to help determine if you qualify for the Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit.

We’re also proud to partner with the local Orlando VA Medical Center (VAMC) to support veterans who qualify for a set number of hours of Home Health Aide (HHA) or Homemaker care paid for by the VMAC.

How does Flourish in Place provide care to veterans with this benefit?

Flourish in Place is a licensed home health “private duty” agency offering non-medical supportive care for seniors and others in their chosen home environment across Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Brevard Counties.

Our top priority is to provide home care for veterans who are aging, so they aren’t forced to forfeit any of the three most important lifestyle goals in old age:

  • Remaining independent
  • Having enough money, and
  • Maintaining good health.

We provide a variety of home care services for veterans including, but not limited to personal care, cooking and serving meals, transportation, and companionship.
